Registration Set To Open For Inaugural RBC GranFondo Banff

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

The inaugural RBC GranFondo Banff will open registration to the public tomorrow, March 15, 2012 at 9:00am (Mountain Standard Time), with interest in the August 25th event already proving to be strong.

With first opportunity to pre-register for the event given to Founding Riders from other GranFondo Canada events, rider response to this new event in Banff has been aggressive particularly in light of the limited capacity in place in Banff National Park.

“Of the 1,500 available spots, Founding Riders have already snapped up a third of them” said GranFondo Canada’s Director of Marketing, Lindsay Carswell. “We knew that interest in this event would be strong and people are demonstrating it by registering quickly.”

Starting and finishing in the beautiful mountain town of Banff, the 142 km route will take cyclists into the heart of the Rockies to experience the awe-inspiring nature of Banff National Park. The event will be the first of its kind to take place completely within the boundaries of a national park and will appeal to cyclists of all levels, from recreational to advanced.

Event entry includes:

  • A dedicated lane width for cycling for the entire ride.
  • Timing chip tracking performance on the overall route length and on pre-determined course sections.
  • Complimentary bag check.
  • Four fully-stocked Rest Stops along the course.
  • Mechanical support at Rest Stops as well as roving mechanics to offer assistance.
  • Medical support at Rest Stops as well as roving medics along the course.
  • Sag wagon support to the finish for all riders unable to continue.
  • Secure bike parking during post-event party.
  • A commemorative keepsake to all finishers.
  • Souvenir t-shirt.
  • Post-ride meal, refreshments and entertainment.
  • Ride results posted on the RBC GranFondo Banff website.

The Alta Classe registration provides a first-class experience with extra perks and benefits including an exclusive staging area at the start line, a private lounge at the finish, complimentary cycling jersey and bonus gifts from sponsors.
